Your Threads Account Is Getting a Bunch of Updates

Changes are coming to Meta’s Threads social network, the company announced on Thursday. The modifications begin with a change to its domain extension, which is moving from Threads.net to Threads.com. Some desktop layout changes are coming, too, as well as one change that will help users copy and save images.

Some of the coming changes

At the top of the Threads page, users will now see custom feeds in the same order as they would on mobile devices. And you can get to your liked and saved posts using the main menu icon to revisit conversations you’re interested in more easily, instead of creating a pinned column.

Other changes include being able to add a column by clicking the new column icon on the right-hand side to customize your Threads display.

Threads is among several social media platforms focused on text-based posts instead of videos and photos. But the competition to have the highest number of active users is heating up. Platforms including X, Bluesky and Discord all take a similar approach.

Images can be copied

A couple more coming changes might simplify Threads use.

Users can now copy an image posted on Threads, whereas before, they always had to take a screenshot.

And now it will be easier to post a new thread while scrolling in threads, as the + button will be available while a user is scrolling. Before, users had to return to their profile or home page to create a new post.

You can now create a new Threads post when pressing the + button in the right corner of the screen.

More to come

A Meta representative said that more changes are coming to Threads.

“We know how important the web experience is, especially for creators, and this is just the first set of updates we’ll release in the coming months,” the representative said in an email.

Threads is also testing a feature that lets you upload a list of people you follow on other apps to connect with them elsewhere — beginning with its competitor, X. The hope is that this feature will help grow creators’ Threads audiences. There’s no release date for this update yet, but some users are already seeing the feature.
