Rumors of a Final Fantasy 9 Remake Heat Up After Social Media Tease

A remake of the game Final Fantasy 9 might be on deck as the 25th anniversary of the beloved RPG approaches. At least that’s what some fans believe after the game’s publisher Square Enix posted on X a screenshot with a line from the original 2000 game, “My memories will be part of the sky…” with the caption, “If you know, you know 😭.” 

The line, from the ending of the original game, has some speculating that Square Enix will soon announce a remake, as it has for Final Fantasy 7. The company set up a new website for the game as the anniversary date approaches. There’s been reports of a possible remake since as far back as 2021 when a purported list of games in the pipeline was leaked.

Not everyone, however, is happy with at least one player suggesting that the original game is so good, it doesn’t need a remake.

Square Enix didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
